Tuesday Oct 15, 2019
Tuesday Oct 15, 2019
School systems used to be one-size-fits-all. This didn’t always work for all students. These days parents have an array of options available to them and they’re able to make choices that work for their children. BUT, which choice is the right one?
In this episode we welcome the president of National School Choice Week, Andrew Campanella. The National School Choice Week is the largest public awareness effort in the U.S. focusing on opportunity in K-12 education. Andrew shared with us information about all of the available options and tools to make great choices for your family.

The One About Gifted and Talented Students
Tuesday Oct 01, 2019
Tuesday Oct 01, 2019
According to the National Association for Gifted Children a total of 3 to 5 million children in grade K-12 are gifted and could use additional support in the classroom. Children who are gifted and talented (GT) don’t typically appear as most would imagine high achieving children do, so it can sometimes be challenging to identify them. GT programs have struggled to provide equitable identification of low-income students, black and Hispanic kids, and kids with special needs. Further complicating matters, no blanket definition of “giftedness” exists across states or local education agencies and no existing national requirements guide how gifted programs are executed.
In this episode we explore the topic of gifted and talented children with Irving Independent School District Coordinator of Gifted and Advanced Academics, Holley Naskey.

Parental involvement in education is vital. Studies show that when parents are involved students have better grades, behavior, social skills, and attendance. Sometimes it can be difficult to navigate the school system and to know who to reach out to when a problem occurs. Fostering a relationship with your child's school from day one can make the difference between a good year and a great year.
In this episode we were joined by friend of the show, Andrea Fields. Andrea is a veteran educator and currently serves as assistant superintendent at Duncanville ISD near Dallas, TX.
